the wastelands…

Been working on a few stock photos these last days. Kept coming across ugly things that I seem to like taking pictures of.

Had some thunderstorms pass over the other night, but alas, I was not with my camera at the time, nor at home. After about 15 minutes of seeing some of the most spectacular lightning I’ve ever seen (coming from Santa Barbara we get lightning like what, once every three years.), I decide I need to stop what I was doing and get to my camera. So I bolted out the door and ran through awful rain, black skies and streaks of lightning all around; Arriving completely soaked. Would have been some cool shots of lightning over the church tower, but by this time, the storm had passed for the most part, and was now in the distance…

Took a Little Road Trip

Headed up north over the weekend. After all this time in Germany, it was my first time on the autobahn and a bit of speed. Driving north on Saturday was cold and grim, but Sunday was just that, full of sun. On the way back we took a detour through the old east Germany; so many cool old towns and villages. I think I could spend several months in that area.

Return of Winter

Seems winter decided to make a final appearance during the last week, but a few days of snow and cold was all it was able to muster. Even Mr. stork has returned. And how long the days are getting once again!

Better Late than Never…

It seems that winter finally decided to show up last week. Friday was the coldest at somewhere around 15ºF, but it was a brilliantly sunny day, so off for some cross-country skiing it was. The rest of the time I was cruising around on my trusty bike, trying to make up for lost time.

Saturday (above) was cold and windy. I was off on my own, high up on some open fields being blasted by a cold wind.

Stupid Idea of the Week

Riding a bike through a snowstorm. The normal journey time from town to the forest usually takes me around 5-6 minutes, in the snow it was around 35 minutes. Of course I wasn’t helped much by this girly little bike I had: seat too low, my knees hitting the handlebars, tires too skinny and half flat. At least the gears work (usually) and it has cool fenders.

Yep, It’s Cold…

Well, somehow I’m in Budapest. I had meant to stay in Austria, but it being the holidays means that people just come out of nowhere and book everything up; so my usual lack of planning doesn’t work so well. I’m actually quite lucky to have a place for the next few days, then everything will go back to normal and I can wander about without much concern. I had really meant to stay in Switzerland, but I ended up in northern Italy for some rock climbing and some photos, so then went to Austria. Oh ya, its pretty cold these days as well, -5c when I was walking around Vienna the other day, good fun.
