Here are the first few photos from San Felipe. I was at race mile 58 when the motorcycles came through, then at mile 30 for the trophy trucks and again at the finish for the first trucks. I only have a few photos in the gallery at the moment and will be adding more over the next couple days. Though this was more of a working trip to help out my brother’s team, so I didn’t end up shooting too much.

It’s that time of year to head down to San Felipe, Baja California for the 2012 Baja 250. My brother is racing again so I’ll be helping out the team while pre-running and on race day. By ‘helping out,’ I mostly mean sitting out somewhere in the desert in my truck, cooking in the hot sun while waiting for a rider to arrive, fill them up with gas, watch them ride off and their dust fade into the distance, drive to a new location and repeat. Only a week out of Europe, even 10,000 spf sunblock wont help and I’m sure I’ll be lobster Honda red after a day or two.
I’m not really sure how many photos I’ll take this year. There’s so many other photographers these days and I don’t really have an outlet for race photos so it’s not really worth much effort. I’ll probably focus a bit more on behind the scenes stuff while pre-running and maybe a few sunrises and landscapes while I’m sitting around in the desert. For me it’ll just be more of a fun trip this time around. And there’s lots of cool stuff down there to explore. The race is almost just an excuse for me to go down there.

2011 San Felipe Baja 250 Photos
I’ve put up a few photos from the San Felipe Baja 250 in my archive. There aren’t too many from this year – well, there’s more, but they’re mainly behind the scenes stuff from the team I was chasing with, so not really interesting as a whole. Might put them online at some point in the future if I have the time/motivation.

Here’s a few first photos from the 2011 San Felipe Baja 250. I was at RM 30 for the first bikes coming through. Headed to the pits at Zoo/Morelia road near RM 90 where I caught the trophy trucks pass by then ending up at the finish for the trophy trucks again.
I was running chase for my Brother and his team on the 209x bike. They ended up finishing 6th place in the 250cc Sportsman class, a good effort as it was the first Baja race for 3 of the 4 riders.

It’s been a few years since I was last in San Felipe for the Baja 250. I’m driving a truck and trailer full of bikes down for a team and will be helping with the pre-running of the course during the next week. The race itself is next Saturday the 12th. San Felipe is one of my favorite towns in Baja, and is a nice and mellow place to hang around for a week. Should be springtime down there in the desert, so temps wont get to hot. The race is also overlapping with Carnival celebrations, so it should be a good time…

Baja 250 coming up next week (March 14-15), so I’m heading down to San Felipe tomorrow to shoot a story about an all female race team (more later) and help with the pre-run of the course during the week. Should be a good times…
