Every year the old iron mine on the edge of town has a celebration: music, dancing, theater, fire, beer, bratwurst, and fireworks.

Was down in the Nürnberg the other week taking some photos at a (Jazz) concert. The venue was in an old church ruin from the war and looked pretty cool once it got dark. At least the rain waited until the end…
Germany 3:2 over Turkey is now in the finals. Lots of celebrations again tonight. A couple pics…
At some point they got the idea to sit down in the middle of the street and start chanting. So they’d block a car for a minute or two, then get up, dance, get out of the way, then repeat. All seemed to go well, until the police would come around at about every 20th car, and would give a blast of the sirens and everyone would run to the side, wait 3 seconds, then back in the street…
While the Germans like to build one big ass fire, the Austrians seem to prefer hundreds of small fires, which they take up into the mountains. I’m not quite sure how they coordinate it, and if every fire is a person, or one person has several fires which they maintain, but it is truly a marvelous sight. At about ten o’clock someone shot off a flair from one of the mountain peaks, and then moments later the hundreds of little fires lit up on all the surrounding mountains.
Our cabin was one of the buildings near the cow’s butt. Up at about 5,000 feet with a pretty good view.
Friday night at Schloss Pürkelgut near Regensburg.
Germany 3:2 over Portugal. The streets are a party! Went out to the street to take a few photos.
It’s now 30 minutes later and the crowds are still chanting and the horns keep honking.
Nice day on Sunday, so what better way to spend part of the day at a German Volksfest.
Historic note: The large building in the background is the old Nazi congress hall. The largest building remaining from that era and is part of the larger complex of the Reichsparteitagsgelände (nazi party rally grounds)
A group of people gathered on the dark night. The days now grow longer…
Saturday could not have been a better day for the Santa Barbara Triathlon. I had been expecting a continuation of the fog and gloom that has seemed to be ever present this summer but was surprised to see clear skies as I walked to my truck at 6:15am. My cousin was competing for her first time so I had decided to go down and take some pics. The strength and endurance of these athletes is simply amazing, inspiring…
Took a quick stroll down to the fiesta parade to check things out and take a few pics. The light had a weird color due to the Zaca fire and it was literally ‘raining ash.’
